Dr Andres Lozano, Wyss Center Scientific Advisory Board Member and neurosurgeon at the Krembil Neuroscience Centre of Toronto, Toronto Western Hospital, has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada.
The accolade, one of the highest civilian honors that can be bestowed on Canadian citizens, is in recognition for his work to establish Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) as a globally recognized treatment for movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease.
“The brain is the great frontier, the great unknown. It’s like space,” said Dr Lozano, who also serves as the Dan Family Chair in Neurosurgery at the University of Toronto. “Our team has been able to go to the areas of the brain that no one has been to before and discover neurons and what they do.”
The Wyss Center Scientific Advisory Board comprises leaders from academia, business, and medicine who provide the Wyss Center with their scientific expertise and guidance across a wide range neurotechnology areas.
